This is where a searchlight was installed in the "Geiyo Fortress" period of the Meiji era. The searchlights were strategically located to detect enemy ships at night. The station had a "Shoko-za(lighting deck)" where the searchlight was positoned for use. Directly below the lighting deck was a "Dento-i(Lighthouse)" where the searchlight was stored. The searchlight would then be raised to the lighting deck by elevator or hand winch. A searchlight in those days had a mirror reflector of 90cm in diameter and chould irradiate distances of about 6km. Similar remains are found on the northern end of Okuno-jima island.
